GEORGES ST-PIERRE Defeats DAN HARDY by Decision

Georges St-Pierre def. Dan Hardy via unanimous decision (50-43, 50-44, 50-45).
CHAMP GEORGES ST-PIERRE VS. DAN HARDY (for welterweight title)
Round 1 – St-Pierre takes the center early. Hardy circles at long range. St-Pierre shoots in, and 25 seconds in, Hardy’s on his back. St-Pierre in half-mount, though Hardy regains guard. Hardy looks for rubber guard, though St-Pierre works to half-mount. Now side control. Hardy rolls to his knees. St-Pierre takes the back and moves to the floor. Two minutes in. St-Pierre has one hook, now two. Hardy spins in and scrambles to his feet, but it’s just seconds in before St-Pierre has the action back on the floor. St-Pierre in half-mount, and he’s trying to pass. He slides is leg out and gets mount. Hardy trying to defend from his back. He rolls and stands, but St-Pierre holds the back, though it’s very high. St-Pierre drags him back down and holds the back. Hardy tries to roll, and St-Pierre secures a deep arm bar. Hardy looks trapped, but he won’t tap, and he slides out much to everyone’s surprise. Back to the feet for the bell. Clear round for St-Pierre, 10-9.
Round 2 – St-Pierre in the center again. He jabs, and Hardy answers. St-Pierre with a leg kick. St-Pierre evades a few punches. Hardy throws a big left, but he’s short. St-Pierre shoots a single from distance, but Hardy is on his back. St-Pierre in half-mount, and he slides easily to side control. A knee comes to the body, but there’s not a lot of offense from the top. However, the positioning is clearly in St-Pierre’s favor. Hardy tries to roll out, but St-Pierre moves tot he back. Hardy standing, and St-Pierre is very high. St-Pierre slides around and pulls guard. Hardy’s arm in danger again briefly, but Hardy sets up on top. St-Pierre rotates and escapes back to the feet. St-Pierre works southpaw. Hardy kicks high. St-Pierre kicks low. St-Pierre lands a right hand, and Hardy sticks out his tongue. Superman punch for St-Pierre. A double-leg from St-Pierre, and he works the fight to the floor with less than a minute. Hardy has guard, and he’ll survive, but he has yet to figure out a way to stay standing. St-Pierre takes the second on the MMAjunkie.com card, 10-9.
Round 3 – Similar start. Hardy throws a right, and St-Pierre shoots immediately. St-Pierre in half-mount, and he’s more active from the top with punches. Hardy regains guard, and St-Pierre postures up and lands an elbow. St-Pierre starting to score from the top with more frequency. Elbows finding their mark. Hardy pawing at his left eye, but there’s no stoppage. Hardy holds guard. St-Pierre postures, and Hardy thinks about a triangle. St-Pierre just shucks it off and moves to side control. St-Pierre isolating the left arm. He’s got it trapped, and he wants to spin into an armbar. Hardy pulls it away, but St-Pierre now in side control on the opposite side and looking to isolate that arm. Hardy scrambles up to his feet, but it’s just seconds until he’s back on his butt. Less than a minute, and Hardy is breathing very heavily now. Hardy rolls up to his knees, and St-Pierre again high on the back. Hardy working to his feet, but St-Pierre uses a leg lock to pull Hardy back down. Round ends there, another clear frame for St-Pierre, 10-9.
Round 4 – Hardy with a jab, but 13 seconds in, and St-Pierre has the fight back on the floor. St-Pierre moves quickly to mount. Hardy scrambles up, but St-Pierre again to the back. Hardy grabs a leg and thinks about a kneebar, but St-Pierre is just too much and gets back to top position. St-Pierre postures and delivers a few solid shots before pushing in. St-Pierre presses and moves to side control. St-Pierre again isolates the left arm. Two minutes left. St-Pierre scrambles out and locks in a kimura on the left arm. Hardy wincing, but he doesn’t want to tap. Hardy’s arm in danger, but he won’t relent. St-Pierre rests and looks to crank it again, but Hardy slips out. It’s brave, but he’s still being dominated. St-Pierre in half-mount now. Less than a minute remains. St-Pierre again thinks about the kimura, but elects to spin for a kneebar instead. No time to lock it in as the bell sounds. St-Pierre now up four rounds to none after another 10-9.
Round 5 – St-Pierre jabs. Traded low kicks. St-Pierre throws a low kick, and 20 seconds in he has the fight again on the ground. St-Pierre shrugs off a triangle attempt and moves out to side control. St-Pierre thinks about an arm, but Hardy keeps it safe. St-Pierre spins around to the back of a kneeling Hardy and drives knees into the ribs. Hardy rolls, but St-Pierre pushes through and Hardy is on his back. St-Pierre on the side in half-mount, and he tries again to secure the left arm. He can’t, but he moves out to side control. Hardy courageous underneath, but he’s got nothing in the way of offense. Two minutes left, and St-Pierre pitching an obvious shutout. More work on the left arm, and an arm-triangle is nearly locked in. Hardy rolling on the bottom, and a few short punches and knees find their mark. Hardy works to his knees, then his feet, but St-Pierre locks him up and dumps him to the floor again. Elbows from the top. Hardy tries to punch from the bottom. St-Pierre drops back for a leg lock as time expires. Hardy makes it to the final bell, but it’s a whitewash.
